Baja Signature Cocktails

Jenn MeyersWhen I volunteered to blog about my department, I had no idea what I was going to write about…then it dawned on me. What is the number one question asked of any bartender? Can I get the recipe for that? And this is where I begin…

The Safari Endeavour is currently sailing in Baja Mexico's Sea of Cortés. I am given the freedom to pick and choose post-excursion (i.e.snorkeling, hiking, paddle boarding) beverages and “Cocktail of the Day” – a delightful happy hour concoction. I am constantly experimenting with infusions, off-the-wall liqueurs, and fresh ingredients.  I have chosen to highlight my top three cocktails and one CALIENTE after dinner drink….Enjoy!

The Song of the Humpback

Whale breachImagine walking down the stairs to the back deck of a boat you’ve been on for two days and hearing these miraculous sing song tunes coming out of a small speaker. 

The Safari Explorer carries a hydrophone, which is a microphone to be used underwater in order to hear marine mammal communications.

Valentine’s Day on the Sea of Cortés

Orca whaleAs the crew gathered in the galley for 7:00am crew breakfast, it was quickly noted that Valentine’s Day had arrived, as we were all welcomed with a small bag of chocolates that had our names on it. With that came the thoughts of how to make this a memorable day for the guests.

Mysteries of the Seas Carnaval in La Paz

La Paz waterfrontFor a six day stretch each winter, the quiet waterfront town of La Paz, Mexico, becomes a lively hub of festivities.  This year’s Carnaval occurred February 7-12, 2013 and the theme was “Mysteries of the Seas.”

The Malecón, or main waterfront street, is lined with vendors, music thumps from oversized speakers, and people mill about enjoying the jovial atmosphere complete with street parties, costumes, parades, games, and local fare.
